New Akabu Remixes from Deetron, Lovebirds and Joey NegroThe eerie, mysterious “Life Is So Strange” is culled from the Akabu album “The Phuture Ain’t What it Used To Be”, however the album version of the song was more of an ambient piece comprising of just vocals and keys with not a drumbeat in sight. Now it’s been fully revamped for single release with some firing housed up mixes. First up is the Joey Negro Medusa Mix which uses the deep moody keys from the original but adds an old school drum machine powered groove. Tony Momrelle’s Stevie Wonder like vocals glide over the top, while the backing vocal harmonies interweave with the riffs to deliver a truly moving piece of music. Several of the album reviews described the song as being Blaze like. Deetron has been on great form over the last 18 months with a sound that’s both modern and techy yet still musical, which has hit home big time for Ezel, Ben Westbeech and Leon. Here he works his magic again with his trademark futuristic warped chords, pounding old school house bass and a snare heavy Todd Terry style drum beat. Definitely one for the heads. After their many EP’s on Freerange and Winding Road, Lovebirds need no introduction and on this occasion his mix is on a 90’s garage tip. Utilizing the backing vocals over stabbing chords and furnished with a seriously meaty bass to make a clubby floor filler that will work within many a style of dj set.
